Strategy
Fortaco is active with the green environmental transformation and one of our strategic targets is to transform the off-highway equipment industry into emissions free. The Technology & Zero Emissions team is developing future business offerings, including fossil-free steel, lightweight design, integrated thermal management, and battery pack weldments and assemblies.

Fortaco entered the agricultural segment nearly a decade ago when it formed alliances with cabin manufacturers in Europe and Asia. In 2023, Fortaco acquired full ownership of the French cabin manufacturer, Buisard, and the Austrian manufacturer, MauserCABS, and thus significantly increased activity in the agriculture market. Fortaco currently produces vehicle cabins in factories located in Austria, Finland, France and Slovakia. A new greenfield factory in Gliwice, Poland is now starting steel fabrication for Fortaco’s European agriculture OEMs.
In Pune, India, Fortaco is providing safety cabins for the Indian and Asian markets in co-operation with TATA AutoComp. Cabin manufacturing is done by TATA AutoComp and it is based on Fortaco’s cabin design and manufacturing technology. Production started in 2024.
Fortaco benchmarks itself to automotive manufacturing standards and has embraced robotization in its plants, offers significant supply chain advantages, and helps customers mitigate risks with its ability to manufacture similar products in multiple plants.
Today, Fortaco serves approximately one dozen leading manufacturers in Europe and Asia, including Bobard, Bobcat, Claas, Game, Hirl, Manitou, Preciculture, RigiTrac, Sauerburger, Kubota, Wacker Neuson, and Aebi. Through Business Site Breitenau operations we also supply John Deere in the United States.
Fortaco continues to expand its footprint, positioning itself to support agriculture companies on their global journeys.
A variety of applications like sprayers, tractors, balers, agricultural wheel loaders and telehandlers, combine and harvester machines are used widely in the agricultural sector applications where Fortaco’s solutions play a critical role.
Fortaco has decades-long relationships in the construction equipment sector, serving top OEMs including Bobcat, Dynapac, Brokk, Hamm, Hitachi, Hyundai, Kaiser, Liebherr, Mecalac, Manitou, Potain, Sandvik, Volvo, Wacker Neuson, Wirtgen, and Yanmar.
From its factories in Janów Lubelski (Poland) and in Breitenau (Austria), Fortaco produces applications for excavators, bulldozers, graders, wheel loaders, dump trucks, pavers, compactors, telehandlers, piling, crushing, and screening equipment for material management.
Business Site Breitenau offers literally thousands of configurations in plug-and-play cabins, including HVAC systems, seats, wiring harnesses for the US and European markets. Its products are also renowned for great rust protection, with coating and painting done par excellence.
Fortaco’s Janów Lubelski site has made major investment in automated production lines with welding robots for two-piece booms, which have enabled it to quickly take on capacity for customers forced to reconfigure production in light of geopolitical events. A double spindle machining center is next in the investment queue.
Fortaco supports a wide range of off-highway equipment and infrastructure applications, offering solutions that include excavators, bulldozers, graders, wheel loaders, dump trucks, pavers, compactors, telehandlers, piling systems, and both crushing and screening equipment—demonstrating its strong footprint across the full spectrum of the construction equipment market.
Fortaco has been active in the container handling segment since the company’s inception. It offers applications for seaports and terminals, including ship-to-shore gantry cranes, straddle and shuttle carriers, reach stackers, empty container handlers, terminal tractors, automated guided vehicles, as well as parts for mobile harbor cranes to enable the addition of spreader and lift containers.
From its factories in Narva (Estonia), Kurikka (Finland), Wrocław (Poland), Holič (Slovakia), Fortaco serves customers in Europe, China, and the United States, including Hiab, Hyster-Yale, Kalmar, Konecranes, sfPORTEQ, Camblift, Liebherr, and Taylor.
Fortaco’s strengths in designing cabins, combined with its diverse geographic footprint, gives it the ability to handle many product variations under short lead times. To enable this, Fortaco has made investments in unique manufacturing lines for reach stacker booms and frames, as well as in robots, machining centers, and paint shops.

For its defense clients, Fortaco applies its full-systems and assembly expertise gained in the private sector to meet the rigorous defense-sector requirements of safety, quality, supply management, and security compliance, including separate production lines, restricted access and visitor vetting.
Fortaco’s history in the defence sector dates back to 1943, when a factory was established for the repair of heavy weapons. In the 1960s, production was expanded to ammunition body shells for heavy weapon systems. By the 1980s, operations extended to cover the repair and maintenance of armoured vehicles, followed by the manufacturing of heavy mortars, field guns, and specialized equipment for the air force in the 1990s. In 2006, Fortaco started industrial cooperation with Patria and the Polish Ministry of Defense for the manufacturing of suspension frames, including complete assembly of the brake system, gear box and wheel hubs. Since then, the defense business has become a significant part of Fortaco, with a delivery scope that includes working as an R&D partner to defense OEMs, welding, painting, and the assembly of cabins, steel structures and assembly services.
Fortaco applies its efficiency, knowledge, and proven experience in the production of innovative defense vehicles and is capable of producing complete small and large welded steel structures, chassis, frames, and bodies. With business sites in the European Union, Fortaco enables defense contractors to fulfill industrial cooperation requirements.
Europe’s Nordic region leads the world in the manufacture of cut-to-length forestry equipment. Due to the region’s sustainable and renewable approach to forestry, companies like Fortaco and the OEMs it serves have pioneered cut-to-length and other technologies that result in minimal environmental impact and maximum efficiency in forest harvesting and the transport of cut trees from the forest.
Specialists in steel components and cabins, Fortaco offers applications in mechanized wood harvesting, handling, and processing. These include cut-to-length forest harvesters and forwarders, on-road forestry cranes, and related equipment. From its factories in Kurikka (Finland), Narva (Estonia), Breitenau (Austria), Wrocław (Poland), and Holíč (Slovakia), Fortaco produces for its OEM customers, including Komatsu, EcoLog, Hiab, John Deere, Konrad, Logset, Penz Crane, TW, and others.

Fortaco provides a wide range of applications for mechanized wood harvesting, handling, and processing—such as cut-to-length forest harvesters and forwarders, on-road forestry cranes, terminal and mobile cranes, and other supporting equipment—strengthening Fortaco’s role as a key partner in sustainable forestry solutions.
For 25 years, Fortaco has led in the municipal segment, producing cabins for small tractors and articulated machines up to 60 horsepower.
Fortaco’s plant in Kurikka, Finland, produces cabins for Wille Machines, the Nordic’s largest manufacturer of municipal machinery in the 2-7 tons weight class.
From Business Site Breitenau, Austria, Fortaco serves manufacturers around the globe, including John Deere, Kubota, Aebi, and Amazone.
Fortaco is known for its development process, working closely with manufacturers for machines that accommodate the multitude of attachments that municipalities require: mowers, spreaders, sweepers, plow blades, leaf vacuums, loaders, and backhoes.
Fortaco has set a new standard, producing the world’s most efficient AC system with airflow efficiency exceeding 70 percent for tractors of only 25 horsepower. This system, developed to meet the US market requirements, will also be available on the European market.
Fortaco has been in the material handling business for nearly 20 years, long specializing in the processing of high-strength steel critical to material handling customers.
Working from eight European business sites, Fortaco serves the world’s leading material handling OEMs, including Hiab, Hyster-Yale, Jungheinrich, Kalmar, Konecranes, Liebherr, Linde, Manitou, Mantsinen, Palfinger, Still, Terex, and Taylor.
Fortaco’s flexibility gives it the ability to supply a wide range of customer needs, with applications from small forklifts to large cranes. Fortaco offers OEMs flexibility in a volatile marketplace, helping its customers reduce their investment needs and maximize their return on capital employed. Committed to serving its customers wherever they are in the world, Fortaco continues to expand its global footprint.
A wide range of material handling applications are supported across retail, food and beverage, logistics, and industrial sectors. These include equipment for cargo and material movement such as industrial and mobile cranes, light-, medium-, and heavy forklifts, and on-road load handling equipment—like loader cranes, forestry cranes, and truck mounted forklifts—demonstrating Fortaco’s comprehensive capabilities in the material handling domain.
Fortaco’s customers lead the world in advanced mining operations. In support of these OEMs, Fortaco produces equipment for exploration, tunneling, surface- and underground mining, and rock excavation applications, including key parts of drill rigs, mechanical cutting equipment, mobile crushers and screens, surface drilling rigs, underground drill rigs, loaders, and dump trucks.
From its business sites in Janów Lubelski (Poland), Wrocław (Poland), Kurikka (Finland), Sastamala (Finland), and Narva (Estonia), Fortaco serves OEMs like Epiroc, Sandvik, Caterpillar, Normet, and Volvo.
Multiple business sites, each with a different specialty, give Fortaco the ability to weather the cycles which affect the mining industry, while still producing highly complex products of superior quality. Fortaco continues to invest heavily in the most modern welding and machining capabilities in Europe, including two five-axis machining centers and sophisticated welding robots capable of producing frames for machines with over 60-tonne payloads. This investment has paid off: In 2023, Sandvik named Fortaco Janów Lubelski its Supplier of the Year.
A wide range of equipment is supported across all mining segments, from exploration and tunneling to both surface and underground mining, as well as rock excavation—demonstrating Fortaco’s full-spectrum expertise in the most demanding applications of the mining industry.
Recycling is not yet a big market segment, but it is a growing one, and Fortaco actively serves its OEM customers whose portfolios also include recycling products.
Through its factories in Narva (Estonia), Kurikka (Finland), and Wrocław (Poland), Fortaco produces on-road and mobile recycling cranes, skip loaders, and advanced operator cabins for customers like Hiab and Mantsinen.
Fortaco applications also include screens and crushers, hooklifts, tail lifts, and truck mounted forklifts, highlighting Fortaco’s capability to serve the diverse and evolving needs of the recycling industry.
Fortaco effectively leverages its manufacturing experience in other segments to offer state-of-the art products in the recycling segment, and it looks for growth to go hand in hand with the segment itself.
